Meet the Man Behind the Wine: Thierry Rodari

When Thierry Rodari arrived in Perth 17 years ago, he didn’t come with a plan, he came with a passion. Born and raised in Paris, Thierry grew up surrounded by culture, conversation, and good wine. But it wasn’t until he opened Whisper Wine Bar in Fremantle in 2010 that his vision truly took root.

At the time, the idea of a European-style wine bar was still new to Western Australia. Thierry saw an opportunity, not just to serve wine, but to tell its story. Whisper quickly became a beloved institution, known for its handpicked list, relaxed elegance, and a rare sense of intimacy. For 14 years, it wasn’t just a bar. It was a place where people came to explore, learn, and connect. In 2024, Thierry sold Whisper, but not the dream.

Today, he brings that same spirit to Sideways Tours: a collection of immersive, thoughtful wine journeys that go far beyond the typical tasting.

“I’m not here to rehearse a script, I’m here to open a door, into the culture, the people, and the places that give wine its soul.”

Thierry Rodari

His tours are deliberately small, highly curated, and deeply personal. Whether you’re wandering through boutique vineyards in the Swan Valley or sipping with locals in hidden wine bars, Thierry brings you closer to what the French call terroir, the story behind the glass.

This isn’t just wine tasting. It’s wine understanding.

Led by someone who’s lived the business, poured the bottles, and never stopped asking questions.
If you’re looking for something different, something real, Sideways Tours is your way in.

What our wine lovers say

  • Highlight of our trip to Perth!

We booked the Margaret River tour and it was the perfect mix of amazing wines, stunning scenery, and genuine hospitality. The blending workshop was so much fun, and we loved comparing Aussie wines with French ones. You can tell this tour was created by someone who loves wine and people. Can’t recommend it enough.

  • A wine tour like no other!

We’ve done a few wine tours before, but nothing came close to this. The tastings were fun and interactive (loved the blind tasting challenge!), and the vibe was so relaxed and friendly. You can tell everything is thoughtfully planned, from the boutique wineries to the gourmet lunch. Highly recommend if you want more than just sipping wine, it’s an experience.

  • Personal, premium, unforgettable.

What a day! Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable, but not in a stuffy way — it felt like a day out with friends who really know their wine. We visited places we never would’ve found on our own and tasted some truly special bottles. The small group size made it feel really personal. Already planning our next one!
